TMJ Treatment in Claremont, CA

If jaw pain, tension headaches, or teeth grinding have become part of your daily life, you are not alone, and you do not have to keep living around it. At Boon Aesthetic Wellness, Botox offers a non surgical way to relax the overworked jaw muscles behind TMJ discomfort, providing real relief without incisions or downtime.

Every TMJ treatment is performed personally by Jessica Barron Skelly, RN, an aesthetic nurse injector with 13 years of experience and a national trainer for Allergan, one of the world’s leading aesthetic companies. TMJ treatment requires precise knowledge of jaw anatomy, since the muscles involved sit close to several others, and that precision is exactly where Jessica’s training makes the difference.

How Botox Helps TMJ Pain

Temporomandibular joint disorder, commonly called TMJ, affects the joint connecting your jawbone to your skull, along with the muscles that support it. The masseter and temporalis muscles, the primary muscles used for chewing and clenching, often become overactive in people with TMJ, leading to a cycle of tension, pain, and strain that can radiate into the neck, shoulders, and temples as headaches.

Botox works by temporarily reducing the ability of these muscles to contract. When the masseter and temporalis relax, the excessive clenching and grinding that drive TMJ pain begin to ease, which helps break the cycle of chronic tension rather than simply masking it in the moment.

Who TMJ Treatment Is Right For

This treatment tends to help most if you are dealing with jaw tension or pain that affects your daily life, frequent headaches centered around the temples, a habit of clenching or grinding your teeth, especially at night, or a jaw that feels tight, sore, or fatigued by the end of the day. It is worth noting that Botox is typically most effective as part of a broader approach to TMJ management, alongside things like a night guard or physical therapy, rather than a standalone cure.

Many patients also notice a secondary benefit. As the masseter muscles relax and gradually reduce in size, the jawline often appears softer and more contoured over the following weeks, an effect some patients seek out on its own.

What to Expect at Your Appointment

Your visit begins with a consultation where Jessica evaluates your jaw anatomy, symptoms, and history to confirm that Botox is the right approach for you. Treatment itself is quick, typically ten to twenty minutes, with injections placed directly into the masseter and, when appropriate, the temporalis muscles. Topical numbing is available if you prefer it, though most patients tolerate the injections well without it.

Relief is not immediate. Most people begin noticing a reduction in pain and tension within one to two weeks, with any cosmetic jawline slimming becoming visible over four to six weeks as the muscle gradually relaxes.

Downtime and Aftercare

There is little to no downtime with TMJ Botox. Most patients return to their normal routine immediately, with only mild soreness or swelling at the injection sites for a day or two. Jessica will walk you through simple aftercare, generally avoiding strenuous exercise and massaging the treated area for about 24 hours after your appointment.

Results typically last three to four months, at which point most patients return for a follow up treatment to maintain relief.

What Determines the Cost of TMJ Treatment

TMJ treatment is priced the same way as other Botox treatments at Boon, per unit, since the exact number of units needed depends on the size and strength of your jaw muscles and the severity of your symptoms. Your personalized plan and total cost are determined during your consultation, after Jessica evaluates your anatomy and goals.
